One hundred years on Magnolia

Tap through the story — from Vic Paris’s 1926 café to today’s revival.

1926

Café proprietor Vic Paris opens a humble little restaurant on West Magnolia Avenue, just off Hemphill Street. It quickly becomes a Near Southside fixture.

1930

Paris sells the business to the Asikis family (later the Smiths), who will run it for the better part of a century — building traditions around biscuits, cinnamon rolls, chicken and dumplings, and rows of homemade pies.

1965

Mike Smith takes over from his father and grows Paris into a true Fort Worth icon — a home away from home for generations of families, TCU students, and local luminaries.

1974

The café moves one block west into a former Safeway grocery store at Magnolia and Hemphill — the address it still occupies today.

2021

After nearly 95 years and a 55-plus-year career, Mike Smith retires and sells Paris to chef Lou Lambert (who grew up eating here), restaurateur Chris Reale, and developer Mark Harris.

2022

Paris reopens after a top-to-bottom renovation guided by its own historic photos — the same swiveling counter stools and B&W images, now with all-day breakfast, weekend brunch, and a full coffee-and-cocktail bar.
