Franklin Barbecue
Franklin serves lunch Tuesday–Sunday from 11 a.m. until sellout. Dine-in uses a line; advance takeout is a separate option with a five-pound meat minimum. That distinction matters for a couple versus a larger group. Check the ordering calendar for pickup availability instead of assuming a small individual preorder will bypass the line.
Uchi
Uchi is the sushi and Japanese small-plates choice in this group. The restaurant accepts reservations and explicitly welcomes walk-ins, so booking weeks ahead is not a universal requirement. Reserve when your evening depends on a particular time, or contact the restaurant about walk-in seating without assuming immediate availability.
Loro
Aaron Franklin and Tyson Cole’s Asian smokehouse combines Texas smoking techniques with Southeast Asian flavors. The South Lamar branch uses counter service and does not take ordinary table reservations. There is indoor and outdoor seating, a dog-friendly patio and a dine-in children’s menu. Large-party or private-event arrangements are a separate inquiry.
Odd Duck
Odd Duck’s dinner menu changes with seasonal ingredients and is designed for sharing. Reservations are recommended; some walk-in tables are retained and can fill quickly. The homepage currently lists dinner from 4:30 p.m., while an older FAQ still mentions 5 p.m., so confirm the day’s seating time. The restaurant currently says it does not offer takeout.
Ember Kitchen
Ember pairs Latin flavors with live-fire cooking in a Josper oven. Reservations and a limited walk-in allocation are available; neither means a guaranteed zero-minute wait. Its official site offers two-hour Seaholm Garage parking validation—enter on Walter Seaholm Drive and ask the server to validate before leaving.
