Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday, November 26. Several Texas restaurants have already announced service for that date. Below are options published on the restaurants’ own websites, followed by a planning guide for other cities and for meals at home.
Holiday service can differ from a restaurant’s normal Thursday schedule. Before booking, check the menu, children’s pricing, service charges, cancellation terms and whether your preferred seating is available.
Are Restaurants Open on Thanksgiving in Texas?
Yes. The restaurants in the next section have published Thanksgiving 2026 offerings. Elsewhere, check individual hotel restaurants, steakhouses, buffets, diners and neighborhood restaurants directly. Being part of a chain or located in a tourist district does not guarantee holiday opening.
Use the restaurant’s dated holiday announcement rather than ordinary opening hours or a previous year’s article. A reservation page showing availability for November 26, 2026 is also useful when choosing a seating.

Three Ways to Do Thanksgiving Dinner
Each option needs a different plan.
1. Dine In
Choose between a buffet, a fixed-price holiday meal and an à la carte menu. Check whether turkey is included, whether the usual menu remains available and whether there is a seating time limit. Tell the restaurant about allergies, accessibility needs and children when booking.
2. Order a Family Meal to Go
Compare the advertised serving count with your group, then check exactly what comes in the package. A turkey-only order, a complete meal and a sides bundle are different purchases. Confirm whether the food arrives hot, chilled or frozen, and get the pickup window and reheating instructions in writing.
Use each seller’s actual order deadline. Some meals can be ordered early, while others have limited pickup slots or sell out before the advertised cutoff. Do not assume every kitchen accepts orders until the week of Thanksgiving.

3. Cook at Home
Plan around your oven, refrigerator space and the weight of the turkey you actually buy. For a large group, several manageable birds or additional proteins may be more practical than one oversized turkey. The planner below calculates a refrigerator-thawing schedule from an entered weight.
Texas Alcohol Shopping on Thanksgiving
Texas liquor stores must close on Thanksgiving Day. For Thanksgiving 2026, buy spirits beforehand. Wednesday, November 25 is the final preceding shopping day; permitted package-store hours are 10 a.m.–9 p.m., though individual stores may close earlier.
Licensed grocery and convenience stores may sell beer and wine during permitted Thursday hours, generally 7 a.m.–midnight, if they are open and local rules allow the sale. That legal window does not mean a particular store stays open all day.

Cooking and Leftover Essentials
USDA recommends refrigerator thawing at 40°F or below, allowing about 24 hours for every 4–5 lb. A refrigerator-thawed turkey can remain refrigerated for another 1–2 days before cooking. Never thaw it on the counter.
Use a food thermometer to verify 165°F in the thickest breast and innermost thigh and wing, avoiding bone. Refrigerate perishable leftovers within two hours, or one hour above 90°F, using shallow containers.
Use or freeze properly refrigerated leftovers within 3–4 days; for a November 26 meal, November 30 is the four-day limit. Reheat leftovers to 165°F. Cold-water thawing needs about 30 minutes per pound, with water changed every 30 minutes, and the turkey must be cooked immediately after thawing. Follow the official method carefully.
