Inside Las Palapas — A Visual Tour Before You Go

What You’re Looking At — A First-Timer’s Visual Guide

If it’s your first Las Palapas visit, here’s how to read the room (and the plate) so you know what to expect and what’s worth photographing yourself.

🌮

The Puffy Taco

The single most photogenic thing on the menu — a puffed, fried corn shell that’s a San Antonio invention. It doesn’t travel well (it goes soft), so it’s best photographed and eaten in-house, fresh from the fryer.

🍲

The Tortilla Soup

The menu’s self-declared “award-winning” dish. Look for the sliced avocado, big chunks of chicken, rice, and crisp tortilla strips fanned across the top — it’s as photo-friendly as it is popular.

🏝️

The Palapa Décor

The thatched-roof, open-shelter styling the chain is named after. Warm tones, casual seating, and a laid-back feel — a deliberate contrast to the fast-food-counter Tex-Mex it competes with.

🍹

The Cantina Bar

At full-bar locations, the margarita and cocktail lineup is worth a look — nine margaritas plus palomas, ranch water, and a Mexican martini. The mangonada margarita is the most visually striking pour.

🍳

The Breakfast Tacos

Served all day and stuffed generously — a genuine point of local pride. One reviewer specifically praised LP’s fuller breakfast tacos over the “skimpy” competition down the street.

🫓

The Homemade Tortillas

Soft, thick, San Antonio-style flour tortillas made through the day. In classic Tex-Mex fashion they use milk rather than lard — that’s what gives them their signature fluffy texture.
