From a Dallas Farmers Market stall to a Main Street barbecue stop in Deep Ellum.

Pecan Lodge was started by husband-and-wife team Justin and Diane Fourton — Justin runs the pits — as a stall at the Dallas Farmers Market. Word travelled the way it does with real barbecue: slowly, then all at once. The move to a permanent home in Deep Ellum turned it into a destination, and the line out the door became part of the experience.

The useful decision at the counter is how you want to eat. Choose a meat plate for your own combination with a side, order by the pound when the table wants to share, or pick a sandwich when you want the meat in a bun. Ask for leaner or fattier brisket according to your preference; the fattier cut has a richer texture.

Then there’s the dish that broke containment: the “Hot Mess.” A jumbo sea salt-crusted sweet potato buried under South Texas barbacoa, chipotle cream, cheese, butter, bacon and green onions. It is a different kind of meal from sliced meat and sides: sweet potato, shredded meat and creamy toppings in one dish.

The menu below keeps prices next to the serving unit. That matters here: a pound of brisket, half a pound of burnt ends and a sausage link are three different things to compare.

Our fire burns

What actually happens in the pits

Pecan Lodge describes a wood-fired pit operation and house-made sausage, with family recipes behind several sides and desserts. Those details explain why this menu reaches beyond brisket.

Offset pits Traditional offset smokers running on a constant fire, generating low, slow, indirect heat rather than direct flame.
Wood-fired cooking The restaurant describes a fire fueled by wood. Smoke and slow cooking shape the texture of its barbecue.
House-made sausage The team grinds and stuffs its own sausage. The menu lists regular and jalapeño options by the link.
Finite batches Everything is smoked fresh in limited daily quantities. When a cut is gone for the day, it’s gone.

A closer look at the bill

The Trough, plates or meat by the pound?

The Trough is about the mix of meats, including a beef rib. It is worth comparing what is actually included before choosing it for your group. Open a comparison below.

Four people: individual plates

Four Two Meat Plates: $108 before tax and drinks. Each person gets two meat choices and one side, so four sides are included.

This route suits a table that wants separate meals. Plate portions are not listed by weight, so it is not a pound-for-pound comparison with The Trough.

Four or five people: The Trough

$165 for the shared meat assortment: a beef rib, 1 lb pork ribs, 1 lb brisket, ½ lb pulled pork and two sausage links.

That works out to $41.25 each for four or $33 each for five, before sides, drinks and tax. The listing does not include sides in this bundle.

Buying the Trough meats separately

Using the listed units: beef rib $55 + pork ribs $35 + brisket $45 + pulled pork $15 + two sausage links $16 = $166.

The Trough is $1 less than that combination. Choose it because you want those cuts together; for a different mix, ordering by weight gives you more control.

Six people: brisket sandwiches to assemble at home

The restaurant’s Chopped Brisket Sandwich Pack lists $109 for six. It includes 2½ lb of chopped brisket, six buns and a pint of BBQ sauce. Divided evenly, that’s about 6⅔ oz of brisket and $18.17 per sandwich before tax and extras.

Six assembled chopped brisket sandwiches at the listed online price of $19.50 each come to $117 before fees and tax. The assembled sandwiches list pickles and onions. The pack’s description lists brisket, buns and sauce, so budget separately for any toppings or sides. Check preorder availability for your pickup date.

Before you join the queue

Timing your Deep Ellum visit

Plan around service hours, your preferred cuts and the size of your order. A published closing time does not guarantee every meat will still be available.

Ask about collection for large orders

For a larger meat order, call (214) 748-8900 to ask about collection arrangements. Confirm any express-line policy with staff before relying on it, and buy the amount your group actually needs.

Go early — and treat “sold out” as real

Everything is smoked fresh in finite daily batches, and the menu itself says the restaurant is open “until we’ve sold out.” Popular cuts can be gone well before closing, especially at weekends. Arrive earlier in service if a particular cut is the reason for your visit.

Monday is a short day

Monday service runs 11am to 3pm only, while Tuesday through Sunday run into the evening. It’s an easy mistake to turn up on a Monday evening to a closed door.

Pecan Lodge, answered

Where is Pecan Lodge and what are the hours?

Pecan Lodge is at 2702 Main Street, Dallas, TX 75226, in Deep Ellum. Phone: (214) 748-8900. The restaurant homepage lists Monday 11am–3pm, Tuesday–Thursday 11am–8pm, Friday 11am–9pm, Saturday 11am–10pm and Sunday 11am–9pm, or until sold out. Confirm holiday hours before a special trip.

How much does brisket cost at Pecan Lodge?

The online ordering listing shows brisket at $45 per pound. Half a pound works out to $22.50 before sides, drinks and tax. Burnt ends are a separate item priced at $22.50 per half pound.

What comes with The Trough?

The $165 Trough is listed for 4–5 people and contains one beef rib, 1 lb pork ribs, 1 lb brisket, ½ lb pulled pork and two sausage links. Sides are not listed as part of this bundle.

What is the Hot Mess at Pecan Lodge?

The Hot Mess is a $17 loaded sweet potato with South Texas barbacoa and creamy toppings. The restaurant’s printed menu describes brisket and pork in the barbacoa, plus chipotle cream, cheese, butter, bacon and green onions.

How much meat should I order per person?

For an order of boneless brisket and pulled pork with sides, ½ lb of cooked meat per adult is a useful starting estimate. Appetites vary. Bone-in ribs and sausage sold by the link do not fit the same calculation.

Can I skip the line with a large order?

Ask the restaurant about current bulk-order collection arrangements before visiting. Do not assume a particular meat weight guarantees express service; confirm the process with staff.

Does Pecan Lodge offer catering?

Yes. Its published menu lists catering for groups of 15 or more. Contact catering@pecanlodge.com with your date, group size and event details to discuss a quote. Nationwide shipping is also offered through Goldbelly.

Which sides should vegetarians check before ordering?

Ask staff about meat, stock, toppings and cooking methods in each side. The online mac ’n cheese listing includes bacon on top, so it should not be treated as vegetarian by default. Confirm whether any modification meets your needs.
